Frequently compared to the likes of Sublime and Pepper, Can’t Hang began playing punky reggae party music in 1999. Equally influenced by Bob Marley and Bad Religion, Can't Hang spent time gigging around their hometown before they released their Sound in Time EP in 2001. By the time of their 2002 full-length debut, Coast to Coast, they had earned a loyal local following and had begun expanding their fan base with shows up and down the East Coast. The song Bird River Grove has over 2 million streams on Spotify alone, and is regularly featured in the top reggae rock playlists. Chris Iltis penned the song with Luke Mysko on a hot summer day reminiscing about good times and better times to come, and the unwritten future. Many songs foreshadowed the struggles of life. Going into the studio Iltis, L Mysko, J Mysko, and Lynch laid down the song that still rings true and holds up today. The lyric "remember the days before we were troubled" never rang more true, when the band lost bassist Rob Eisenhutt, in 2019. They play on in his honor. His infectious smile and jokes still live on through all the fans and people who knew him. Can't Hang's earliest beginnings goes back to Chris Iltis and Luke Mysko playing to people in the dorm rooms at Fort Lewis College of Colorado. Realizing they had a musical bond, Chris and Luke returned to Maryland, and then invited brother Joe Mysko and eventually Steve Lynch and Rob Eisenhutt to the party. They gelled, and jammed and wrote songs and quickly went to the studio and recorded Coast To Coast where the song UpTown and Cop Car, and House Party really seemed to capture the vibe of their lives, and live shows which hooked the fans/audience. Every show seemed to be some version of a big house party. Eventually houses couldn't hold these guys and they sold out the Recher Theatre the very first show they played. From there they loyal following helped propel them, and a year later they recorded Sound In Time. the song, Bird River Grove became a sort of athem for all things Can't Hang and that's when things stated to really take off for them, and the rest is an interesting history to say the least.
The founding members Chris Iltis, Luke Mysko, Joe Mysko and Steve Lynch have all been talking about some sort of reunion. The fans have steadily grown even without touring. Can't Hang legacy has lived on and inspired many other artist. Can't Hang has its sights on playing again, and throwing down new tracks. Each member has recorded their own original music separately. They are looking to reunite and throw down those collaborative tracks that hooked and helped propel the genre of Reggae Rock. Can't Hang isn't done yet.
